Winter break is over and Point Park University students are returning back to school. As soon as you unpack all your Christmas gifts it’s just about time to start jumping on your off-campus housing search in Pittsburgh. Point Park University is located in Downtown Pittsburg making rent a little more costly than other areas on the outskirts. As to be expected, living alone if going to be the most expensive option. The general rule is going to be the more roommates you have the less you’re going to pay. Being Downtown, the majority of housing options are apartments, so if you want a house you should jump on that as soon as possible. One of the greatest assets of a downtown campus location is that as soon as Point Park students step out of their front doors they’re within minutes of all the wonderful cuisine and cocktails that Downtown Pittsburgh has to offer!  With the help of Uber and public transportation students can easily access all the delicious places to eat and drink all over the city from the Golden Triangle to Market Square and everywhere in between. When taking a deeper look at the awesome options that Pitt offers we noticed there’s a lot of Italian food so if you love Italian dishes you’re in luck. If you’re not the biggest fan, don’t worry! Even in a big city, there are plenty of activities that cater to all outdoor lovers! Point Park University is located just minutes away from Point State Park. This park is the “point” where the beautiful Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers meet forming the Ohio River. This breathtaking park is a secluded area making you forget that you’re in the middle of the city. As mentioned above, students come here to play sports games and relax but the enormous, peaceful fountain. In addition, students can also kayak the rivers here or start the 150-mile hiker-biker trail all the way to Cumberland, MD.

College Life in Pittsburgh, PA

Things to do

A liberal arts college, Point University may be a small school (under 4,000 students) but it’s located right in the heart of Downtown Pittsburgh providing tons of things to do, all in walking distance! Stepping off-campus puts you right in the middle of all the hustle and bustle. As an art school, one can only imagine how much Point Park students love the arts. Just down the block, you can walk to the Pittsburgh Ballet and Symphony to catch weekly performances. Attending plays at the Pittsburgh Playhouse is also extremely popular amongst Point students. Both collegiate and professional sports teams are bountiful in Pitt; with the university’s own NAIA sports teams and the city’s Pittsburgh Steelers or Penguins, there’s always a fun game to catch-students receive discounted tickets. During breaks between classes Point students hang out in Village Park or head over to Point State Park to toss a football around or relax by the fountain. Lastly, students can soak up the historical culture of Pitt by visiting the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, the Andy Warhol Museum, or ride the incline to the top of Mount Washington.
