Radford University not only provides students with a massive recreation facility, intramural sports and group fitness classes, but they also have a dedicated outdoor program that students can participate in. Some organized events students can join in on are caving, skydiving, backpacking, mountain biking, scuba diving, and so much more in the New River Valley! If you want to do activities alone or with friends, you can rent equipment from the school or go to the trip planning center to get advice for your next adventure.

Nearby Claytor Lake State Park is an ideal spot for camping, hiking, and swimming. The lake is known to hold sport fishing and boating events, and you can even rent your own boat for the day. Spend a weekend camping with friends at Claytor Park to relax and unwind from the stresses of school!

The city of Radford might on the smaller side, but students are always finding big ways to have fun! Each week on campus, students can participate in a range of activities. Some great ways to get involved are becoming a member in of their many clubs, like a frat or sorority, signing up for an intramural sport, bowling at the Bonnie or attending a football game against rivals Virginia Tech to show off your Highlander pride!

Students like to head off-campus to take advantage of everything Radford has to offer. The New River is practically outside your back door, and during warmer months students go floating down the river. Being so close to the mountains, you’ll have endless year-round opportunities for outdoor activities at places like Claytor Lake State Park of Bisset Park. There are plenty of awesome restaurants, bars, and shows on Main Street, but to shake things up, students like to head to nearby Blacksburg for a night out in the city.
